Chennai, India, (March 06, 2023) - Renault Nissan Automotive India Private Limited (RNAIPL) today announced the successful completion of the upgradation and expansion of the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Chengalpattu Government Medical College. The inauguration of this lifesaving facility for children was presided by K Selvam, Member of Parliament, Kancheepuram, and graced by Thiru Ma Subramanian, Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare, Government of Tamil Nadu, Thiru T M Anbarasan, Minister For MSME and Tamilnadu Urban Habitation Development Board, Government Of Tamil Nadu, and Chief Guests Varalakshmi Madhusudhanan, Member of Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, and Rahul Nath (IAS), District Collector, Chengalpattu.
The event was also attended by Mr Keerthi Prakash, Managing Director, RNAIPL along with other senior officials and lawmakers from the state.
Chengalpattu Government Medical College is the only hospital that provides critical care including a PICU for underprivileged children in the district and its adjoining areas. The PICU facility has been completely upgraded and expanded by RNAIPL to meet demand.With this expansion, the facility can provide treatment to an estimated 1,500-2,000 more children every year who need critical care. RNAIPL has invested close to INR 1 crore to complete this modernisation and expansion project at the hospital as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitments.

The PICU infrastructure upgrade and expansion project involves various enhancements, such as provision of uninterrupted medical gas supply during emergencies, good quality air-conditioning through state-of-the-art air handling units, and the installation of new fire alarms and firefighting systems. The latter modifications are aimed at enabling early detection of fire and reducing the risk of a stampede. The renovation of the PICU also includes new flooring and plumbing, installation of data wiring, central monitoring and public address systems. The project aims to bring a significant impact on the local community by providing a best-in-class ICU facility that will help reduce the mortality rate of children.
This is not the first time that RNAIPL has undertaken an infrastructure upgrade at the Chengalpattu Government Medical College. The company is also investing around INR 2 crores to support the renovation of the Medical Outpatient Department as well as the construction of a waiting hall in the hospital campus.
